Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty Overview
Blepharoplasty or cosmetic eyelid surgery is used to improve the appearance of the eyelids. Some patients elect to treat the upper or lower eyelids only. Other patients are candidates to have the upper and lower eyelids addressed at the same time. During blepharoplasty excess eyelid skin and fat are removed in most cases. In some patients bulging fat of the lower eyelids is repositioned only through an internal or transconjunctival incision. Incisions are typically made externally when excess skin is a major issue. In older patients, additional procedures, such as a canthopexy, are often performed to improve the integrity of the lower eyelid. Blepharoplasty is commonly combined with brow lifting and face lifting to provide the most harmonious result.
When considering blepharoplasty, it is important to notify Dr. Gallego if you have any of the following: glaucoma, dry eye syndrome, detached retina, thyroid disorders or cardiovascular disease.
