Nose Reshaping

Overview
Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty) is an operation where the nose is modified in order to provide a more pleasant and proportionate appearance. It is most commonly performed to treat a poorly defined nasal tip or a prominent dorsal hump. The majority of incisions are placed inside the nose. Any external scars are typically not discernible after a few months. The best candidates for nose reshaping are patients who have specific, realisitc goals.
Anesthesia type: General or IV sedation
Length of Surgery: 2-4 hours
Risks: Infection, bleeding, loss of nasal tip sensation, difficulty with nasal breathing, prolonged swelling, asymmetry, poor outcome, need for revision procedures
Average recovery time: Patients usually will need pain medicine for a couple of days. The external splint and sutures are removed after one week. Most patients will return to work at this time. Patients can begin to ease back into their normal activity in 3-4 weeks, however contact sports are strongly discouraged for the first six weeks after surgery. Most of the swelling will be gone by after a few weeks, but a minimal amount can persist for months. The nose will continue to heal for roughly one year after surgery.
Duration of effect: >10 years
