Obagi Blue Peel
Overview
The Obagi Blue Peel utilizes a TCA chemical peel to tighten skin, correct unwanted wrinkles and removes superficial areas of hyperpigmentation from facial skin. The treatment is performed by Dr. Gallego in the office. All patients must first undergo preconditioning of the skin for at least six weeks with hydroquinone and Retin A. Patients with a history of cold sores should also undergo prophylaxis with acyclovir. Occasionally, after a few months, further peeling is required for the best results.
Anesthesia type: Most patients do not require any anesthesia as the Obagi Blue Peel is not particularly painful. Some patients will prefer to use an oral sedative such as a Valium or Xanax.
Length of procedure: 1 hour
Risks: Hyperpigmentation, hypertrophic scarring, infection, prolonged redness, acne flare up
Average recovery time: Skin healing in 6-10 days; redness usually resolves after 4-6 weeks
Duration of effect: 2-3 years
